Do mental health workers ever see a patient as hopeless? Like do they ever reach a point where they think the patient will not be able to get better and they can't do anything for them?

I don't really know.

I've heard a few people say that their mental health workers have said something along the lines of "I don't feel my expertise is what can help you. I feel that Mr X with the qualification of x,y,z will be of more help to you."

But they've all said that's basically their mental health worker giving up on them and throwing them off to someone else...
