Hi all

Please could anyone recommend me some self help to aid my concentration.

It can be anything!

I have recently had to give up a job due to the return of some anxiety and whilst I was working I realised that my concentration wasn't great.

As part of my plan to help myself when I go back to work, I thought some concentration therapy, etc may help me.

Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Fancyharm,

I would highly recommend as long you don't have to be the only one to monitor the phone or door in your place, high doses of listening to music, music is powerful, and soothing, and is a marvellous self help aid treatment.

i hope this helps.

I think you need to try as many methods as possible and carrefully evaluate how you feel when you try out any concentration improvement method.

I do not know if it's close to your issue but I myself have problems to maintain my focus. To help me stay focused on what I want I need to eliminate any distractions such as music, youtube, video games, social media and even people. First thing in the morning is to avoid doing enything else except for what I have my day planned. I also work from home and if I am planning to work from home I do nothing except what is related to my work. I usually go straight out of bed to my laptop and start working with my eyes half opened.

What about physical exercise? Do you do any physical exercise? From my exerience it can help a lot to drain yourself out by doing some physical exercise. For this I am running as often as possbile. The tired body will make your mind easier to focus in one direction because it will instinctly try to retain energy. This mood may last even after you rest your body and have the normal level of energy again.

I also meditate sometimes. I have various meditation practices saved from yt and when I feel like doing any I do them. For example today I did this simple Isha Krya meditation along with a basic for of yoga from the same guy called Upa Yoga. Sometimes I do the entire process, othertimes only the first 3 or 4. It is a long pracice but I learnt it and I know all steps without watching the video and it takes a lot less time.

I also use essential oils to help me with my energies and with my focus. I have been using rosemary essential oil in the past but now I have found out about this essential oils blends that I use for focus and for other daily uses too. Here is a small review about the ready made oil blends that I use almost on a daily basis: Best Blends of Essential Oil Recipes

And then again what do you do before sleep? I also experienced better focus next day if before sleep I focus for a few minutes on what I will do when I wake up and at work. Whatever I plan doing next day I try to take that to sleep with me. I will wake up as if already focused and ready to do that particular thing that I tried to visualise before sleep.

That is all I can come up with for now. Try out these if you feel like it and see if any method works for you. Maybe two or more methods will do the trick for you or maybe one is enough. For me sometimes I do not need any, but othertimes I need all of them to help me get my focus back on track. Meditation I believe is the best if you can do it. I do that Upa Yoga practice and when I am at the Shambavi Mudra step I stop there and meditate for a lot more than the video tells me to. 20-30 minutes or so and it rejuvanates me and restarts my focus too. As if I just woke up in the morning with my mind clear.

Hope any of these will help you.

Great post Andrew Reiki.
All the things he said are spot on and you can incoporate in your daily activities.

I suffer from major brain fog daily, and especially meditation, yoga and excersie seem to help me a bit.

Maybe try to find the root cause of your inability to concentrate.
Is it stress, anxiety, negative thoughts, rumminating about something, there's always a reason, maybe try and find it out and write it downfor yourself.
Are you sleeping well also, lack of good sleep can in combinatoon with anxiety can also cause concentration issues.

the root cause.... now have you thought about your constant thinking. when do you give yourself a break? not just once but little bits through the day can be far more effective you can get into a rythm more.

the thing with anxiety is that it is a tough customer. but mostly its about over thinking and not really completing anything much. your thinking flits about. and this is most likely partly habit too.
