The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, a 2021 Amazon Studios production starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy.

The true story of eccentric British artist Louis Wain (Benedict Cumberbatch), whose playful, psychedelic pictures transformed the public's perception of cats forever. Set in the early 1900s, we follow Wain as he seeks to unlock the "electrical" mysteries of the world and, in so doing, to better understand his own life and the profound love he shared with his wife Emily Richardson (Claire Foy).

English artist Louis Wain rises to prominence at the end of the 19th century for his surreal cat paintings that seemed to reflect his declining sanity.

Friday

9.05pm, Blake's 7 - Breakdown, Forces TV. A sort of 1970's Magnificent 7 in space. In this one, Gan already has a brain implant which prevents him from being too violent, and it starts to malfunction.

(And yes they tended to make blonde actress Sally Knyvette (Jenna) deliberately bend over a lot with her back to the camera whilst wearing lycra - it soon becomes very obvious. Compare the camera positions when the others bend over - in fact they don't much. She left after the first series - probably why).

10.15pm, UFO - Mindbender, Forces TV. Gerry Anderson sci-fi series made in 1970 and set in 1980.

Flying saucers are abducting Humans and killing people etc (choosing remote locations as not to be noticed). The United Nations (or similar) finds out - but decides that publicity will spread mass panic. So instead decides to set up a Top Secret international defence force - SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation) - including on a base on the Moon!

In this one, an alien placed crystal causes Lieutenant Andy Conroy, Straker, and other SHADO operatives to hallucinate. (One of the "Mexican bandits" is that Spanish actor from Mind Your Language!)

In a brilliant piece of surrealism - commander Ed Straker hallucinates that he is merely an actor in a TV series about UFOs and aliens! He then steps out of the set and into the real-world studio where UFO was filmed, and we can see all the sets that were used to film the series. The actors are now called by their real first names. We also see that the Moonbase set is merely adjacent to the Earth-based one - well of course it is! The Moonbase women who are now merely actresses having their wigged hair prepared etc - brilliant!

Daily

9am, Frasier, Channel 4. The psychiatrist abandons his bar-propping in Boston (a heavily Irish descendant city in the north eastern USA) in favour of presenting a radio show in Seattle (a more Hippie influenced city in the north west). However, his new life is thrown into upheaval when his father moves in with him - followed by his apparently psychic care assistant Daphne.

(There are just over 260 episodes and it runs in double-bills at 9am daily)
