Neil Baldwin, born just after World War II, is considered to have learning difficulties but he has an appetite for life and, encouraged by his mother Mary, leaves his butchery job to join the circus as Nello the Clown. He moves to Keele University, appointing himself the unofficial greeter to new students, a role rewarded by an honorary degree in 2013. He also gets to manage its unofficial football team, named after him, and in 1992 talks his way into becoming the kit man and mascot of his beloved football team Stoke City. For Neil there are no boundaries - his interest in religion leads to his becoming a lay preacher whilst he presents himself at the House of Commons for tea with MP Tony Benn and at Cambridge University, where he strikes up a friendship with Prince Andrew (that might be a misprint as other sources cite Prince Edward), which results in his being on the Queen's christmas card list.

(A re-working of the 10 Little Indians whodunit where you can play along at home. Just a couple of clues if you do try to guess - it isn't that FBI man who left them there secretly returning nor it is someone hiding from them - the killer is one of the trainees - but who?)

Just to prove that the idea of fake news is nothing new;

2.35am, Devil Ship Pirates, Talking Pictures. A damaged Spanish Armada ship is forced to beach itself further along the English coast near a remote village. The crew and marines etc find that the locals don't know the outcome of the naval battle (maybe they are waiting for the highlights on Match Of The Day). So they tell them that the Spanish won and that there's no point in the villagers fighting them! They know the ruse can't last forever though - especially with Market Day coming which will bring in many other people from surrounding areas some of whom surely will know the truth and bring it into the village with them - but the Spanish figure they can fix the ship and sail off by then!

("Have you noticed that their soldiers haven't left for London and they all seem overly interested in that ship they came here in?" - maybe not so dumb your average Elizabethan era yokel then)

Daily

8.05am, Frasier, Channel 4. The psychiatrist abandons his bar-propping in Boston (a heavily Irish descendant city in the north eastern USA) in favour of presenting a radio show in Seattle (a more Hippie influenced city in the north west). However, his new life is thrown into upheaval when his father moves in with him - followed by his apparently psychic care assistant Daphne.

(There are just over 260 episodes and it runs in double-bills at 9am daily)
