Mental Health Awareness Week runs from May 13 to May 19 - Mental Health Awareness Week 2019

Human Library event - May 11th

The event will be held this Saturday 11th May at the Library of Birmingham. Using the concept of a Human Library, the event will feature Experts by Experience sharing personal recovery journeys to allow visitors to learn how a life is lived through that person’s own perspective. In the same way library books can be taken out on loan, some books will just for reading (learning through their story being told) others will allow questions to be asked. The period of loan can vary but is usually no more than twenty minutes and there will be members of the team there to support.

You can find out more about the Human Library – a worldwide movement for social change here The Human Library Organization - HumanLibrary.org

I would like to invite you to take part in the event and have the opportunity to share your own experience. If you are interested in being a human book and sharing your experience, please get in touch. We will be able to work with you to prepare and plan a script about what you would like to share.

There is a planning meeting for all books to attend if they wish to do the Birmingham Library event on Saturday 11th May – this will be at the Uffculme Centre, Lynton Room this Thursday 9 May, 1-3pm.

It would be great if you were able to be involved, please get in touch if you have any questions. We will also have an information stall on the day and we have a further opportunity in Solihull on Wednesday 29th May, where we will repeat the event at Solihull Core Library.
