Medication for thoughts

I am recovering from a psychotic episode and am plagued by intrusive thoughts and rumination - on the days where I have too much time on my hands and don’t stick to a routine my overthinking is overwhelming. I have asked my doctor for some diazepam for these days and am trying CBD oil (don’t think it is having much effect but only started). Does anyone have any recommendations for medications or alternatives that help with obsessive thinking and rumination?

There are many ways to occupy yourself/distract yourself, through difficult times. I do have medication to sedate me a little and also sleeping tablets, but i rarely use them now. It has taken me a few years to get to this point, where i would prefer to ride out distressing symptoms rather than medicated sleep.

Does your regular medication make you sleep at night? As long as you can get that good sleep at night, a break from everything, you will make it.

Hobbies are very important. What do you like to do with your hands?

I used diazepam to help slow down rapid thoughts of terrible things but the half life on diazapam is very short so recently I have been on clozapam which is very similar but much longer half life so helps functioning for most of the day better for the duration. THC oil haven't tried that before I just smoke weed does help alot for me but not everyone. Only one to avoid is alcohol and grapefruit never mixes well on meds.

Do you not have antipsychotic meds? I would have thought you would have been on these and they would be what you likely needed to keep things at bay after psychosis (for a doc to decide upon of course).

But yes, I also agree that you need to keep your mind from situations where you'd be free to think freely about things. You need things to focus on that will require your thoughts to be on them. It's like that old saying "The devil makes work for idle hands" well, apply that to your mind instead.
