Hiya, as some may have seen before, we in Lancaster are fighting against the closure of female beds in Lancaster Psychiatric Hospital. We are told its temporary, but in fact its till at least March 2015 and longer if the second unit in Blackpool (nearly 60 miles away) is not completed by then. It could well be in May-June 2015.

Lancashire is very large county, and families of women have to travel huge distances to see their relatives, and the transport system here is appalling and very costly. Also visiting times are never when a psychiatrist is around, so advocacy for the woman is highly limited.

I sent a letter to several "important people" outlining what happened to me when my husband was dying and I was an in patient. I was sent to Chorley, which is two bus rides away, and no direct train link. In order to see my husband, I had to be escorted, but no staff were available. Luckily, I was transferred to Lancaster before he died, but can you imagine the horror of not being able to see him when he was dying? I am then told that they would make special arrangements in this case if something like that happened. Soooo they can accommodate a woman if they need to?

All the rooms have modern locks and its the same as a hotel, you never know who is next to you there, but you are safe if you lock the door. Why not on this unit?

So would people mind signing the petition please? I did check and the name address and email address is just so that Change.org (.com??) can be assured that these are real people, the information is not kept or passed onto anyone, including the people running the campaign.

Thank you. :)
