Does anyone know anything about this/ have any experience this? It’s something I’ve always done but it’s really causing me great sadness at the moment

Yes..

Something to try:

*Change thought patterns... such as puzzles, I-Spy books, math, etc.
*Memorize something, like a song

Especially try this when you first wake up and when it seems to be coming back.

I do that everyday and have most of my life. I play out stories in my head of what I want my life to be like sometimes I’ll walk around the house or gesture my hands when I’m daydreaming. My therapist said it’s a form of escapism when you have anxiety. Once you overcome the anxiety and feel happy in yourself you won’t need to live in your daydreams anymore.

I daydream obsessively as well. There is a forum called daydream in blue that is for MDers, both to share their experiences and give ideas on how to stop.
