Hello everybody,

I have an anxiety and panic disorder and I also have health anxiety. Because of a lymph node infection I had trouble swallowing but I still could eat a little. Since mid January I cannot eat properly anymore, even though the infection is long gone. I went numerous time to the doctor and she told me nothing is wrong and it is a symptom of the anxiety disorder, etc. Food was comforting for me and since I don't really go out anymore and I can't eat it is a big strain of my life.

Does anyone else have experience with this as well? Do you have any tips to relieve the tension in my throat?

I have been having a hard time swallowing too. I feel like I'm going to choke sometimes. Eating can be scary for me too. I wonder if it is a side effect of medications? Sorry you're going through this too.

Yes I also feel like choking sometimes. I only eat things that are easy to swallow for months and I feel helpless because there isn't much I can do about it. I am seeing a speech therapist since a week and hopefully she can help me with this issue. I hope you will find a solution for your problem soon. What kind of medication are you using? I am not using any medication so it can't be a side effect for me. I have heard of globus pharyngis where a person feels there is something in their throat without having something in their throat. I think in my case this is what is causing it.

I was also going to suggest asking for a speech and language therapy referal, they specialise in swallowing as well as speech. You could ask your GP about this.

My stepfather is a bit older and he often has troubles with swallowing. I’m afraid he hasn’t found an answer to it, other than eating soft foods, chewing a lot, small bites and so on.

I'm sorry to hear that. I will see how my sessions with the speech therapist will go.

Oh okay :low:. Well maybe you can talk to your GP about it if this sensation in your throat continues. I hope your throat will feel like normal soon.
