My doc decided to check these vitamins when I was having extreme exhaustion all day. Both were low. I did some checking on these 2 in relation to bipolar. Here's what I found.

Vitamin B12 can decrease the symptoms of bipolar in triggering manic states. B12 deficiency can be misdiagnosed as bipolar. Lithium is associated with a decrease in B-12.

Vitamin D supplements are associated with the reduction of both depression and manic symptoms.

I am sure there are other things that go on with vitamins in general. It is certainly worth getting these levels checked.

It is very common for bipolar sufferers to get vitamin D deficiency on account of many of them having lengthy episodes during which they don't venture out much so don't get enough sunlight. I also take vitamin D and vitamin B12 supplements

I started taking Vitamin D recently :)

Fun fact Vitamin D can be taken weekly (simply 7x the amount then) too. If that's easier to remember.

B12 deficiency? i wish that was the cause of my problems as it would be much easier to fix :)

Lamotrigine affects folic acid so i need to take a supplement

Vit D this time of year is important in the UK as there is less sunlight

I've seen somewhere about Folate being a factor too. This is not the one I'm thinking of but there's this also @Tawny

"It was expected that folate might augment treatment effects, but in fact the converse was the case. Folate impaired the response to lamotrigine. This effect is noted here because folate is believed to be neutral or beneficial for mood, and widely used in pregnancy, of course."

Thank you, i'm not sure if they are saying that folic acid is bad for me as in it reduces the effectiveness of Lamotrigine, or if it is better i supplement because it will help my mood. I'm not actually sure what folic acid does to an adult but i know a fetus needs it to prevent cleft lip/pallette which can happen with a baby of a person taking this.

It reduces the effectiveness of Lamotrogine.

Ah, just found it, it was an addition to Valproate that I saw it as being beneficial. They also use it, or have studied it, as acting against possible birth defects, as you say, which is probably how they found it in the first place. Also, in one it said that very high folate was associated with ASD. Only one study but still.
