Want to talk about how social media has affected your mental health in regards to low self esteem, eating disorders, depression, low confidence and loneliness.

comparing my life to other peoples lives and thinking I'm not good enough.
Welcome to the club. To be fair, I don't use social media, and I still get that experience. We've got this forum, which is way better.

On Instagram I kept having people impersonating celebrities ask me for thousands of dollars to help them build an orphanage. There were other dating type schemes going on there too. It seemed like most of my so called followers were actually scammers. That got annoying too.

From another way, It's seems to me, that all those people who often use social media like fb or instagram are in some sense weaker than people who use social media rarely or never.
I guess, there is some fear depth inside them, and this fear motivates them to uploading a lot of photos of themseleves etc.

I think they have a constant need for attention. They are also competing with others, or aspiring to be good looking and popular. The celebrity lifestyle appeals to them, which is ironic, because plenty of celebs like that crash and burn. I don't think it is healthy to always compete, because people use all sorts of fake techniques, whether it is filters, cosmetic surgery, people even buy "bots" (fake automated profiles) to follow them to make them seem more popular than they are.

Even if these people have everything they want, they still aren't content. They always want more. The most appalling thing is that they have real people who massage their egos, always telling them they are the greatest. It reminds me of a ponzi scheme with the social hierarchy. It is also like being back at school with the "It crowd" always seeming to have it all.

At one time, I had one artistic profile, on the one from these social platforms. I had on that profile close to 3 thousands of "followers". But after some years of using this platform I started often thinking: "This number of followers is only the number on my display. This attention is one big strange irreal fiction in fact.".

At the another time, I used one from this social platforms with my real private profile. I was quite active there. And I finally stopped using it when one envy, manipulative person systematically collected data about me and one day created fake profile of mine to discredit and hurt me...

100% agree alot of people are after constant validation from others it's sad that people feel trapped by other people's opinions. Usually the people that do this are not confident have a lack of self esteem and feel that they need constant acceptance from other people to build up their own confidence.

Hello. :welcome:

Yeah I kind of got tired of social media. I still use it, but deleted some other of my social media because it was just too much. I just share my drawings there, but I still compared myself to others and felt jealous. It made no sense to me so I left.

With the one I still have, I'll just continue to share my drawings and talk to my friend.

Look, don't be jealous. Don't give flying blazes about what others are doing. Run your own race!

I was used to be envious towards other students when I was a teenager. I made some wrong choices because of that. Cussed at others, hurled insults... almost got into fights. Was close to imprisonment. All because of what? I was jealous at others who were performing better academically than me!

It's not worth being jealous. Take it easy! :naughty:
