Does lithium or depakote or whatever it's called have an anti psychotic effect? And is it ever prescribed to people who aren't bipolar? X

Lithium and depakote are different meds..
I've been on both and haven't had a diagnosis of bi-polar. But as far as i'm aware, it doesn't have an anti-psychotic effect - it's meant to stabilise your mood.
Why, are they thinking of putting you on it? x

Yeah they are and I don't really understand why. They say it makes your mood more stable, reduces stress and therefor psychosis (caused by stress).
If I don't take it they'll either force me that or an anti psychotic.

Well, they're less sedating than anti-psychotics, but I didn't get on too well with either Lithium or Depakote.. mind you, I had a really rare allergic reaction to Depakote, so it might not be so bad for you. :(
