Keeping my depression a secret

I was diagnosed with depression and put on medication around a month ago and still haven't told anyone. I've just moved home after finishing university and am finding it really hard to hide from my family, having to hide my medication and take it in secret. I also need to register and go to the doctors to get more medication and discuss further treatments but don't know how to do all this in secret, especially if I have ongoing talking therapy. I am expected to be applying for jobs and socialising but I have no motivation to do this at all and my family are getting impatient and think I'm being lazy. I have no idea how to tell anyone and don't feel I have anyone in my life that will understand and feel that they will tell me I'm making it up because I try really hard to act normal and hide it. Just feel completely stuck and don't know what to do

Hi,
I don't like anyone knowing about my illness either. My family ( close ones ) do know however. Please post whenever you need any help. Well done with your degree. You're poorly, and shouldn't feel ashamed. I'm sure your family will want to support you.
Hope all goes okay at your new Dr's.
Good luck with your future, hope you're feeling better very soon.
Take care

hello S5667h
oh i am so sorry you are going through this. depression is a nasty nasty thing. funny thing is i did the same in fact i have never really talked it out with the family.

o sure i try from time to time but it is so hard to find the language. i realise that i cant expect my family to understand me if i dont talk to them. but that is the thing with depression it can keep you trapped in a kind of quiet desperation.

i feel for you as in a way the pressure will keep building until and unless you can do something about it.

is there anyone that you can talk to? have you talked to the doc. are you seeing a counsellor?

take care dont let the depression dialogue stunt your progress that you have made at uni. :goodluck:

I do think that you should tell your family ... They will want to help .. And they will understand a lot better if they know ... It might be a good idea to maybe write down how you would tell them ... I hope this helps ... Remember it's an illness and it's nothing to be ashamed of
