Okay i may sound redundant but i am searching for a job that could eventually allow me to work on my teaching degree later on in life Even through my undergraduate degree is in psychology i was hoping that i could start out as a teacher's assistant in a preschool. But the two jobs that i ve applied for i didn't get. i GUESS I need more classroom experience in order to be even considered for a paraprofessional. I am currently doing volunteer work as a teacher assistant for my local preschool if only they could hire me that would be great. But unfortunately the agency i do volunteer work for is over staffed. So here i am searching for a job which is hard as hell. Its seems like i will never get hired. I am starting to have second thoughts about my career path. Maybe i should just stick to trying to get an office job in the mean time, but i am not even successful at that either. This is really getting me down . i feel so out of place when i go to lunch with the hired employees at the agency and am the only volunteer who has nothing to discuss but her unsuccessful job searches. I don't want to stop volunteering then if i do that i'll go back to falling into a deeper depression and wanting to kill myself, and i don't want to go down that road. At the same time am not having an easy time being unemployed. i feel as through people really don't understand my pain because they have jobs so why should they care right?

i am sorry if i seem to be rambling i just have to get this off my chest if its annoying i understand. I am just a stupid pathetic person with no life.

It's a tough thing to get in, so you shouldn't feel too bad about 2 unsuccessful interviews. You can learn a lot from them.

After each, can you think of anything you could have answered / or done better?

If yes, then that's a lesson learned for the next.
If no, then either you're too cocky! :D or the experience thing below...

could start out as a teacher's assistant in a preschool. ... experience is often required, but that's not a reason to give up, that's a reason to keep going. It's the only way you'll get it.

Okay ... school. But the two jobs that i ve applied for i didn't get. i GUESS I need more classroom experience in order to be even considered for a paraprofessional. ... and the important question is how long have you done this?

If it's less than 2 years, then you'll definitely need more. You said it yourself, the agency is overstaffed... there is a lot of demand for this work, so you have to have what the school wants, and people with more experience and good references will get them. Your degree should be a bonus too.

Stick with it if it is what you want to do. You'll get there if you are good at it, and the work will be more rewarding when it comes.

:)

yeah i AGREE there was a couple of questions that i could of answered a lot better. and like one of the teachers that i work with said i just have to give myself more time volunteering and learning all that i can about the education field. because it just has been three months of me doing volunteer work in a classroom setting. hopefully i can get experience in lesson planning one day. And am not going to give up hope even through its hard.

I've done this.

What I would do is read a few books about the key terms in education at the moment - that way you can talk about these in your interviews and sound like you know where you're coming from.

You'll get there. You could maybe even volunteer at a few different places and then gauge who's looking to give someone a TA job - that way it's another way in without having to do the interview!!!

If you want any advice, please, please let me know, as I've been through a similar process. I'm very confident you'll get there. I remember feeling hopeless!
