Nothing seems to lift my depression I'm functioning okay but I don't feel alive I don't feel joy I'm so done with feeling numb and dead inside I take my medication regularly go to therapy as well yet I feel very detached and depressed nothing seems to lift my mood. What helped some of you overcome depression ? Please all insights are very much appreciated.

Hey Kenza. So sorry you're low.

My suggestion is to make a plan of where you want your life to go - set yourself manageable goals to work towards and start making one or two small life changes a week.

Our happiness is tied up in a sense of achievement - if you're not achieving anything, it's impossible to feel exhilarated or excited. If your life doesn't present new challenges and have movement, it becomes emotionally dead.

Even though we can hate feeling depressed - our depression gets comfortable and safe because it's familiar. It gets harder to push out of that comfort zone...but if you follow the same routine every...every day will become the same as the day before.

So, a mixture of long term (one year) and short term (one month) goals. Doesn't matter if it's re-decorating your bedroom or taking a course to attain a qualification - just things that will improve your life and build your future. xxxx

The following (I didn't begin doing all of them at the same time, though):

1) A good psychiatrist who prescribed the right medication at the right dosage
3) My hobbies (chess, math, physics, reading)
4) Exercise (A walk in a beautiful park twice a day)
5) Therapy (A year with a really good therapist; not any more, though)
6) Meditation (www.wakingup.com)
7) Improved relations with family members

And last but not least, social media like www.mentalhealthforum.net.

We all get in that rut, Kenza. We stop steering and let ourselves drift. It's easy to keep getting up and doing the same things, day in and day out....then we wonder why we're flat lining

Change is refreshing and short term goals provide an immediate feel-good factor and a sense of progress. See what you can come up with  xx

currently not coping with life hanging by a thread before i try committing suicide again i will try give some tips

1) follow a routine getting up the same time gives a sense of i need to get stuff down
2) eating healthy food over junkfood diet is a big part of how you feel no fizzy drinks just water works best for me
3) going outside every day even if its to go to the shop to get a drink of water just feeling like a normal person works wonders
4) workout be that cardio or going to the gym i have a terrible self-image and demons this helps to work through them and giving myself time to heal
5) socializing outside something i don't currently due to deep depression but when i did just going out to see other people is a nice thing ;(
6) tidy up bedroom if you live with parents or house if you live alone or both if you live with family for me my bedroom tidiness is a reflection of my mind when it is a complete utter shithole so is my mental health
7) wash everyday when i feel depressed i sort of neglect this but after i feel so much better in my skin you could also do skincare and other stuff as a form of relaxing/therapy
8) a thing i like to do because i am lonely is listen to podcasts i like to pretend they are my friends even if its for a 3 hours it still helps me through the day
9) a hobby this really could be anything chess, dancing, drawing, i vote against gaming because i personally believe its a slippery slope if you are inclined to shut yourself in from the world but that is me personally
10) go for a walk to the woods if that is possible getting away from technology and civilization feels good
11) cook a new meal something i dont do often i tend to like the same thing but if you like it i guess
12) read a book or listen to an audiobook
13) go to a meet up google meetup a place people find like minded people i believe its for people in London but maybe you have an alternative
14) spending time with family if you can or want to depending your relationship with them
15) spending time with friends if you have anyone or work colleagues
16) learn another language
17) play a sport whatever you want that could be physical or mental boxing, muaythai, chess, or gaming i would only consider gaming if you meet up with others for face to face contact but thats just my preference as i am a degenerate shut in
18) go on a date something i have not done in years but everyone deserves love dont neglect yourself from that
19) learn an instrument or sing if you got them vocals boi

not sure if any of this will help hope it does dude hope you get better :peace:

Thank you for posting the lists and the short and long term goals it gives you and opening to get out of your self. I moved into a wooded area a couple years ago and was so pleased to have woods right next door now I never go into as I had planned funny someone might live in a city and long for nature and yet here I sit right in the middle of nature and still depressed without trying anything I use to love. Did take a walk one day in a preserve it was a day that no life was about so quite it was horrible as I felt the true meaning of lifelessness. life is what we make of it just pray for the courage to become normal and happy again hugs to all
