Is this OCD or my actions are justified?

Greetings, about a year ago, my father got infected with what I suspect is COVID, it was a tough time for me, the first time in my adolescent life I borderline cried, I probably got infected as well, but still started disinfecting things and avoiding contact, after he got better, I still kept disinfecting things, and before I noticed I had created a "Safe-Zone" for myself, instead of disinfecting the entire house.

I'm a med student that is very stressed in online courses, because of my college terrible handling of the situation. I consider myself mentally stable, I never had any major mental issues, my mind is like iron, but man this year stress was enough to mold my iron mind, and suddenly I lose control.

I thought this will be over by the time this pandemic ends, but I started noticing things in everyday life as well, like I learnt the fact that some of my family members don't wash hands properly even after using the bathroom, and that was when my stress got on a whole new level, what I thought was linked to something temporary, is now linked to something permanent.

I tried doing ERP, but I can't tell if I'm supposed to honestly, I think this is a health hazard, aren't I supposed to keep my hands clean in such situation and avoid possible contamination?

I think I probably don't worry much about getting a disease, because medically I'm not at major risk, but the thought of contacting something dirty really annoys me, I feel like life is disgusting now. Before this, I never had any major "cleaning" issues, I used to handshake people, use public toilets, with no issues at all.

Is this a start of an OCD? Am I supposed to force myself really? Or should the people around me change?

Being in the middle of a pandemic is certainly a reasonable stressor and being more watchful about hygiene hardly a misguided response.

Nevertheless, since it's starting to affect your quality of life it would probably be very wise for you to seek some sort of mental health counselling and do everything possible to contain this now.

Mental health issues in particular tend to snowball very harshly.

I'm just amazed at just how I haven't noticed this before, and I can't convince myself to stop, If only I can convince myself it's fine, I still have the ability to stop, but should I?
