Personally I love the forum it has helped me keep safe up until the point I went into a psychiatric hospital over 11 days ago

I spoke to my therapist about why I use the the forum a sense of like minded people going through similar struggles and pains my therapist said it “could” be a negative because some people on forums are toxic and maybe me seeing posts may trigger my suicidal thoughts or depression I don’t think it Does but maybe I should think about it

Because I said I can identify the people who are just here to moan not to solve there problems I can always block them just thought I’d like to here your thoughts ?

Yeah pal, the forum is great. I mentioned it to the shrink, and he thought I was just on it moaning about him. My gp knows this forum and thinks it's great that I'm on it. The main one in Australia beyond blue only caters for depression, which is pretty weak. Love the sense of community here. hopefully you uk people don't mind having us blowins from overseas.

I like the fact that it’s not all about mental health. You can discuss work , benefits, or even join in the games. Yes it is here mainly for support on MH issues but it is a very good general chat forum as well

Aside from academic forums, this is the first forum wherein I haven't gotten into trouble with the mods. Here, I know that everyone has their own (mental-health) problems so maybe that results in me being kinder and nicer.

I like this forum because I can talk to people and get support. But I also enjoy helping people as well and I am passionate for psychology. It has helped me a lot with my recent trauma and to be understood. I also find it motivates me to get better. I don't have friends, so any form of interaction is nice.

Well for one, it keeps me from feeling more socially isolated than I already am.

Yea it's defo a good thing,
being able to relate to peeps about things means so much to me

Being a Asian Muslim it's so hard to talk about mental health illnesses due to the stigma attached whereas here I can post without feeling like I'm being judged

its 110% a good thing.

The forum staffs listen to us members and hear all sides of the story in my experience

The members here are so supportive

As long as we stay within rules we can discuss more than just mental health

i havent been forced off or had anyone throw me on ignore (to my knowledge)

the only thing i wish there was here was a chat room but that will never happen cause it would overwork the staffs when they work hard enough as it is :)

oh and *brings ice creams in for everyone*

mostly good, there have been a few instances where I've been wanting to close my account, but they usually pass

It's one of those things that can go either way, I think. It depends so much on the individual and what kinds of things trigger that person. For example, in the past, online forums triggered my CPTSD too much and increased my anxiety and depression levels, in spite of using the block feature. Right now, I feel calmer from being on this forum. I realize though that this might change at any time for me.
