The first time I smoked weed it was so profoundly intense it felt like from that point part of me died and was born again and it changed my life forever. In a sense I grew up again since but in an adult setting and learned things about myself I didn’t know. Experiences I had during that trip it was like seeing the world for the first time or through reinvented eyes. My music tastes changed. I never went back to my ‘old ways’ and I know this makes me sound absolutely insane but I feel like it changed my life for the better despite having problems still. I feel like it saved me from a more destructive mindset that was coming.
I ask this here because it’s linked to my life to this day and that was years ago.

I don't know, I've read about Ego Death on all sorts of websites, but I still don't understand what it is. There are different opinions on what it is.

Your ego is developed and constructed by your experiences. It is no more than a character that we develop for ourselves. Our self image is our interperation of our own identity which feeds our need to be individuals or unique.
When this is stripped from you then your self worth is put in perspective.

We are made up of mind body and soul. The mind creates the ego, the body does its job as normal but the soul..that is the REAL YOU which must be discovered.

I think, in a way, yes, it was an ego death of sorts. I think it may nave helped you to see things in a wider, perhaps more spiritual kind of way, a way which psychoactive plants and substances have always been used going far far back into humankind's past.

I just recently heard an interview by one the worlds great scientist's/mathematicians, about when recuperating from over use of crystal meth in the 60's, he suddenly discovered he'd become extremely good at math. It lead him on journey to great heights in his field.

I didn't know this was possible. I wonder why meth made him good at math.

Yes, it's a good question. I can only offer some partially informed speculations about that.

Here's the interview though, if you'd like to perhaps get a bit more insight into it? He tells a pretty amazing story regarding how through his art [he's also a painter] he discovered a new way to get solutions to some seriously difficult mathematical problems regarding space travel - he worked for JPL for years. The scientific community recognized his findings, too. It's very interesting.

I don't know but there probably will be eventually, I'd say.

There's a documentary about him though called, Painting The Way To The Moon.
