im too scared to go to the doctor to find out.
I feel like i want to die,
i feel so hurt and torn up inside, but i just hide it.
It drives me to self harm.
I get too tired to wake up even if i didnt stay up that late,
and i just cant be bothered with things like reading magazines and normal stuff.
I just have this gaping hole inside of me.
My dad has depression, so could it run in the genes?
Help,
xo:confused:

Hi,
I have recently taken the bull by the horns and gone to see the GP. I have suffered with depression on and off for years (I think) I really urge you to go and see your doctor.
They can help you and nothing that they give you will make you feel as bad as you do at the moment. Since starting my meds (a month ago) things are a little better I still have off days but it just makes getting out of bed easier in the morning. I have also been referred for counselling. I am glad I went. I was petrified going to see the GP but I got to a stage where I had to gain some control again!
Your depression sounds greater than mine as I have never had the self harm urge so please, please go and see your doc!! :grouphug:

Hey :)

It sounds like you've got depression; especially as depression does run in families. I've also recently worked up the courage to see my gp about it. I was so nervous, to the point of crying and being sick, about calling my gp for help; I'm so glad that I did though. It's a massive weight off my chest; you'll feel so much better for getting help.
Remember, we're hear to talk to you if you need :grouphug:

Hello waytooDeep

Yes, it definitely does sound like you are suffering from depression. You can perhaps gain some comfort from the fact that thousands of people are going through what you are so understand totally what it is you are feeling. You can find a lot of them on this site! Group Counselling worked wonders for me. It made me see I was not alone and also when asked by the counsellor to name one symptom each, I named the fact that although I was not shaking on the outside, I was like jelly inside, wobbling about all over the place. I felt a bit silly saying it out loud but then was surprised when each other person in the group agreed they felt the same. I would recommend group counselling to anyone who feels like you do because there you feel like you can say exactly what you feel and be understood and helped. Please see a doctor and dont be shy about telling him/her how you feel. Accept the help because then you are helping yourself.:)

I can assure you, this is common problem among many people facing mental health problems. It took me around three years to build up courage to go to the Doctor to help me. I wish I went sooner, my prognosis might be better. As research shows that the earlier you are treated the better the chance of recovery.

This is what is likely to happen. You tell your Doctor what happens, he or she will talk to you about options i.e. medications, mental health teams, psychology etc. They are likely to refer you to a specialist who will treat and help you.

I feel like i want to die,
i feel so hurt and torn up inside, but i just hide it.
It drives me to self harm.
I know how you feel. But please if you do feel really suicidal, please contact a professional or talk to us here. Suicide attempts are always painful, I've been in hospital before due to my actions and I can tell you, the procedures they have to do to save you are usually uncomfortable.

I get too tired to wake up even if i didnt stay up that late,
and i just cant be bothered with things like reading magazines and normal stuff.
This is very common in depression. I am low at the moment, I have lost interest in a lot things that I used to enjoy. I am soon going back on medication, to help me.
I just have this gaping hole inside of me.

Genes to sometimes play a role in mental illness but so does the environment around you.

I think you have to be at least sixteen in order for the Doctor to keep your files confidential.

I was scared to tell my parents about my problems, depression was one of them. But when I did, they were very supportive.

Why would you want to hide it from your parents? You are still a young person and shouldnt be trying to deal with this all on your own. You should give your parents the benefit of helping you through this. They may well be much more supportive than you thought they would be. Start off by discussing this with them and then after that you can think about other alternatives if that doesnt work for you. Be honest with them and explain how you feel. Good luck.:tea:

I know exactly how you feel and I've only recently been to the doctor's about my problems.

Because of your age (if you did go) they'd probably suggest counselling before medication as meds can increase suicidal feelings with young people (this is what my doctor told me).

If you really feel like you need some extra support by seeing your GP, your parents should understand and respect the fact that you're brave enough to admit you're feeling down :)

I hope you feel better soon.

I think you should tell your rents as they will be able to support you better and not just think that you are been 'stroppy'. It is really important to have a strong supportive network around you. :)

I'm under 16; if you appear mature to your doctor, your parents will not have to be informed. Unless they fear you're suicidal or a danger to other people, what you say will be confidential. Don't be put off. Honestly; seeing my doctor was the best thing I've ever done. I was so scared about it initally but it's so worth it.
I worried about telling my mum, but it wasn't so bad. I thought she wouldn't understand at all; we're so different people but parents, regardless of whether they understand or not, will try their best to help you through it.
