Is there anything wrong with self harm?

I have been thinking about this a lot over the past couple of days, I think from a personal point of view because it stops me hurting other people, there is nothing wrong with it. The voices always give me three choices, self-harm, overdose or hurt someone else so self-harm is the better of the three options.

I don't know if anyone else has experience of overpowering voices but I have to make a choice just to get them to shut up, yes I resisted for 10 years but people got hurt also and that's not good. Any opinions on this subject would be greatly accepted as I realize I am just one person floating about in this cosmic dream of life.

If my voice ever got like that I'd tell him to shut up and try and make me do those kind of things. Apart from being insistent he has no power over you.

I'm the one in charge in this relationship and what I say goes, mine never shuts up and giving in to him won't change that although he wants different things from me than yours does.

Yes, I am scarred from self-harm but it is my body that needs to feel it. My voices are part of psychosis so I am not in my right mind anyway so I am almost powerless against them

You seem well enough to come here, I never even thought of reaching out for help any where when I was deep in psychosis. It was all so real at the time.

I'm not in psychosis any more but I still have my voice years later and thanks to medication he's the powerless one, all he is now is a voice (he used to be much more) and I can ignore a voice and have been doing so for three years now.

What do you mean people got hurt when you resisted the voices?

I guess it also depend on the severity of SH, like if you need medical attention or can sort it out yourself.

Yes, I have a condition where it is more than a voice controlling my actions. Inherently SH is a coping mechanism what ever way you look at it. There is nothing bad about it unless it effects someone else i.e a child. I SH a lot and with methods beyond imagination but no one else gets harmed in the process, and medically can take care of myself. So no its not bad at all other than for you, as professionals blab on about "it only takes one mistake" to do serious damage.

Voices can be tamed with time, they are like ghosts with business. Find out why and you can weaken them enough to absorb them.
