Hi. Went to the hospital with heart palpitations and after extensive tests and monitoring there is nothing wrong with my heart and it was definitely not doing anything strange when I was experiencing the symptoms. The doc thinks it must be some kind of stress or anxiety and has given me anti depressants, beta blockers and xanax to calm me. I am much better now but still have occasional palpitations and have stopped the meds as they were stopping me concentrating at work.
I have discussed with an online therapist a couple of years ago and apart from breathing and relaxation exercises is there anything else I can do or is anxiety something I have to live with. I dont want to pay for more online therapy if there is no further treatment options. Thanks for listening.

Hey I have anxiety and palpatations are a common thing for me.
There is lots you can do for self help with anxiety.

What helps me is figuring out what triggers my anxiety (not always possible), and then figuring out ways of preventing it or managing it. One example is when I was working, getting ready was a huge trigger for me. I found that if I got my clothes ready the night before, it lessened my anxiety and made it more manageable.

Accepting that it is anxiety can do a huge amount on it's own.

Did you speak to your doctor about stopping the meds? Just stopping anti depressants can worsen anxiety. I use the anxiety meds as and when needed (propanolol and buspirone), rather than a daily dose of anti depressants. Maybe that is something you could discuss with your doctor, so that it doesnt impact your concentration levels as much.

As for a difference between anxiety and stress. I think they go hand in hand. They feed off each other. They do for me at least.

Hi and thanks for the reply. I did feel a whole lot better when I realized I wasn't having heart problems. I have an idea what started it and think it was an accumulation of things out of my control that made it worse. I didn't speak to the doc about my meds because I just travelled halfway around the world and am now on a ship and will be for a couple of months now. I stopped myself and didn't worry too much as I was only on them for a week so I just halved the does and then quit. I am on Concor beta blockers, Sertaline for depression and the xanax for attacks. The thing is that I do not feel depressed at all. It's all very strange to me. I have just started keeping a log of my palpitations to see if I can find some patterns. I just hope there is more to stopping this than breathing and relaxation.
