I just started on Lorazepam /Ativan and it helps me fall asleep.

Try Amitriptyline, in low doses it works like sedative. I take 25mg two hours before bed. It's not addictive but it has side effects, increased appetite, you may gain weight, after time this symptom goes away. You may have difficulty to urinate or poop because it numb nerves in those areas. It's a very cheap drug and it doesn't knock you out, you sleep as usually before. You may be drowsy first 2 hours of the day, but that's torelable.

The doctors never seem to care about severe insomnia. I don't why this is.

Some psychiatric medications have a side effect that they make you sleepy.
