Hello this is my first post and I would just like to introduce myself..

I'm 20 and my b-day was very recently, my name is George, I believe I have some form of social anxiety for as long as I remember i've been shy, quiet and well too scared to talk to others basicly. Girls are my main problem I had no problems talking with other guys and even then I struggle and still do struggle with coming up with a worth while sentence, I havent had a proper conversation with a "new" friend ( girl ) in years and it is my biggest worry will I ever get married? Have children like many others in my family have already done so..

Anyway I would like to get to my point - What do you do in your spare time when others are out partying and having a great time as they see it? To answer my own question - im on this computer, I know its sad but I take comfort and it helps me forget my worries, I have been playing this online game for as long as I can remember and im fine talking to people on it but in reality I just dont know what to say in conversations, if I do people say I speak too quietly ( but they dont know I was nearly killed for that very reason 19 years ago - as my tongue was cut and I physically cant talk very loudly. )

Thanks for taking the time to read my short story and if anyone around the Glasgow area is having any meets I would really love to attend, as I have very few friends left ( mostly my fault. )

Hello Devon.

Thank you for the reply I was worried no one would post a reply and well you know the anxiety would have got to me even though im not confronting anyone in real life, thats how bad things can be - I think too much

Hi George, :welcome: to the forum. :)

I'm a musician so nearly all my contact with other people consists of meeting them in music groups.

Just an idea

Like yourself i spend a lot of time online, playing games, as i dont like socialising and have similarly lost most of my friends due to my own actions. Just a thought, if you like your computer games....have you tried looking for gaming events local to you, you might find it easier to interact with people when you know you have a common interest, and therefore something to talk about.

Failing that, there lots of us on here, if you want to chat I will always answer any messages, you can always find a friendly ear on here

take care x
:)

Hey, this has kinda already been said, but never mind...believe it or not, there are plenty of people who don't like going out 'partying' that much- you can still socialise! As someone else suggested, try finding a local gaming group, could be anything, pen and paper RPG like DnD, card based like Magic, or even LARP...or something else you enjoy, chess or go or even a reading group...a good way to meet people you already know have similar interest, and the fact that your there for a purpose, to do something, takes away some of the pressure of other social situations.

STOP immediately! Gaming causes psychological problems I am a gamer to but after reading these no wonder I have mental problems!:S
The best advice I can give you is stop gaming(oke you dont need to completely stop gaming but you need to do something else instead and dont play everyday just play for half an hour).Join a football club, sport club or something similair because, you aren't stuck in your sitiuation I too am desperate for a girlfriend but I have schizotypal disorder which is basically mild schizofrenia if I didn't escape into f***ng gaming! I would be a happy healthy 16 year old:(. But I am not.
I plan to fix it for myself now and mainly stop gaming because its doing nothing but harm and I don't feel like I am growing up:(
My BIG advice to you is definitely reduce your gaming hugely I am gonna do it too, Im gonna see a therapist next week and after that I am gonna go to a sport club and appreciate and enjoy my time with friends and if you still are shy to talk to girls (which I am but it is also because of the schizo thing) you just need to kick youreslf in the backside and go for it!!:p:) Good luck my friend you are definitely not alone
Ohw and promise me stop gaming it is really bad for your mental health here is the evidence if you think I am talking shit:p
