Hello. I hope you're having a lovely day.

I've just started DBT therapy, just got though the initial assessment where I had to tell them my life story, which was a little painful at times.

Has anyone else had DBT? How did you find it? As I understand it, it's to help me stop self-harming? How has that worked out for you?

hey

I'm also starting DBT soon, I had my assessment a few weeks ago

it isn't just for self harm, I've been referred for being emotionally unstable, having attachment issues and childhood trauma

I don't know how it works yet, but good luck with yours

hey

i hope all goes well with DBT i have been on the waiting list for CBT for about a year now just to be told oh no u dont need that u need DBT so fingers crossed this helps

please let us know how it goes and what it involvs

Hi

I'm on week 2 of the full programme so very early days. I do the 2.5 group skills training a week plus 1 hour 1-2-1 with a DBT therapist. I was terrified about the group thing but so far its been good. When I joined I was one of 4 new ones and there are 4 existing people.
Its hard and there is a lot of commitment, lots of homework and lots of thinking about how we react and what that does.
It definitely targets self harming and that is the hardest bit for me but I need and want to sort it.

Just been diagnosed with BPD, about to start DBT group soon. My understanding is that CBT teaches change, DBT teaches change but also accepting yourself. I've done CBT for my anxiety, it was fairly successful, but I regressed and got worse. Really hoping DBT can help me

I was wondering if you had done CBT before, I'd be interested to hear your comparisons between CBT and DBT; what you feel the main differences are, what's better etc.
