Im schizophrenic and middle class and wonder if I will fit in, on a housing project/council estate

Im schizophrenic and middle class and wonder if I will fit in on a housing project. I have put my name down on the housing list but am nervous about whether folk on a housing project/council estate will accept me as a new tenant as I look distinctly middle class. I don't look one bit like I come from a tough estate. I would distinctly have the appearance of a middle class person........so I just want to ask will I be accepted......Im kinda feelin nervous about this move......so Id like to hear honest opinions and good advice.......

hey, im on a council estate and come from a middle class background. you will fit in, once your door is closed and you are in your own sanctuary you could be anywhere in the world

we are all equal, I am not tough and I don't look tough, but I fit in. keep myself to myself, keep my private life private. go about my business not upsetting anyone, keep my nose out of peoples business

you will be fine im sure

sending lots of love
hope it works out for you

Part of being middle class, means you can switch between the upper and lower classes easily.

Middle classes get pushed around but we are mobile.

I also live on a council estate.most people have bought their houses and are older than me.most people on the housing list have virtually no chance of being offered a property.

I live on a council estate, I don't know how you define between lower class/middle class or whatever but I would say I feel quite out of place on the estate and have no friends.. People look at me like I'm a snob or something because I like to wear make up and do my hair and dress nicely (which isn't the case if they actually spoke to me, I like to think I'm a nice person who gets on with everybody), also I talk differently to everybody here too (I'm originally from the south and now I'm surrounded by northerners lol) so I stand out like a sore thumb really.. But the same as others have said really, I keep myself to myself and once you are inside you're house you forget about what's outside xxx

@Laura....its just I look posh, I would look scndanavian in appearance but live in Ireland. Trust me that look is posh and doesn't fit in one bit on a council estate in Ireland.

I come from a middle class background(prep and public school educated) and have lived in council housing since 1990. In the early days i used to worry that i'd be marked out because of the way i speak, but as much as i interact with others(which isn't much) i'm seen as just another tenant.
I am not sure what qualifies as the 'middle class look' but i doubt i have it as my clothes are cheap and shabby.

I suppose that is just my observation of actually defining people.. I mean if everybody dressed the same how would you know if somebody is upper class or lower class? You wouldn't. I am quite a timid person so I'm quite intimidated by people that are a little but more rough around the edges.. (You know the ones who are effing and blinding in the school playground lol) I would rather just be a loner :)

I hate how class matters ,I hate so much ,doesn't it matter more that somebody is a good person? than if they wear nice clothes and drive a nice car and have money?

it doesn't matter what class they are as long as they are good inside ,I hope xx
this is a general post to me-not meant at anybody xx

I agree Lu! My point being was that personally I feel discriminated for making an effort by people, who by their own right don't care about the way they look. It's them who look at me like I'm something they just trod in.. Just don't want it to look like I'm a stuck up bitch because that isn't the case at all! My point was the fact that I feel out of place, I don't agree with class either which is why I didn't state what class I am because i am not, I am just me.. And everybody else is them.. I'm quite paranoid as well which I suppose doesn't do me any favours when I go out and about. If I never had to leave my house again I wouldn't!! Xx

I have made myself look like a proper arsehole, I'm sorry if I have offended anybody, no offence was intended.. I probably could have said it better :/
