I have severe social anxiety but i want to try to be an actor. I've always been fascinated by the art of acting but my anxiety is holding me back from ever trying it. Time is also passing me by. Turning 23 tomorrow so if i want to try i guess it has to be now. Does anyone on here who suffers from social anxiety do acting as a hobby or job? Another thing is my social anxiety has caused me to be very good at hiding my emotions which is a bad thing when it comes to acting since you need to be able to show your emotions lol. I'd still like to try it though but i'm afraid i'll make a fool of myself.

actually alot of famous people have social anxiety !
e.g. comedian Rod Gilbert
some actors find they are hiding their real feelings
while getting in character

I have social anxiety in certain respects
I think when it comes to being close to someone I do
asking people to help me in real life as well
I have severe problems with

in other ways I am confident

you may find you are confident in some ways and not others

and you can also start practicing your acting in front of a mirror ...

Yeah i think practicing in front of a mirror is a good idea. I have a problem controlling my facial expressions which is obviously a big issue when it comes to acting lol. It's not too bad it's more like my facial expressions don't reflect how i feel on the inside. Like i could be happy and everyone thinks i'm angry or sad... etc

thanks, hey you know what else
I did some drama classes at an unemployed centre

it followed on from years and years of group therapy
interactive workshops, role play and stuff

I loved getting up and acting out a drama
myself was more into being our actual emotions
rather than being someone elses
but thats just me

you could ask the doctor
to refer you for group therapy in a supported environment
where they will be very patient with your shyness

especially if its a group for social anxiety

Yeah thats a good idea but i live in a small town so idk what opportunities there are around here. Im doing a sound production course in two weeks so maybe that could be a doorway into drama since i'll be working with bands and musicians and stuff and maybe helping out with music videos.
