I am currently in the hospital for anorexia and I feel really lonely. I’ve gone through many mental health crises and this is just the most recent of diagnoses I’ve received. I want to do well in life, but I feel like my eating disorder has to be part of that. I also feel I’m not “validly anorexic” as I’m not currently underweight.

Do you have any support groups in your local area or a hotline number that deals with these issues so you have something to talk to about them? I think using a forum is good because then you can relax knowing others will reach out to you. I hope that you get well to a state that you are okay being in. I would also look to hobbies that you may be drawn too or to do some writing in a journal that can be kept private away from prying eyes. Writing is a loving way to say how you are feeling and then act upon it so if you are feeling lonely you can ask yourself why do you feel that way, what can you do or work on. Read a book on your illness and make yourself aware and keep your power.

you can talk to me anytime here.

Thanks for your support, Angel. I unfortunately can’t engage in many activities here (except for being on my phone), but the nurses gave me some puzzles from a newspaper, so I can work on those.

Also I have a group in the outpatient eating disorders program I’m a part of (but I can’t currently access that) and NEDA’s hotline, but that’s about it.

Try asking them for some peers support and to bring it into the ward. Peers support workers have lived in experience and they specialise in listening, guidance and helping you past the boundaries that nurses won't go on such as a personal chat etc.
