Today I woke up with absolutely no desire to drink. It's now the evening, my boyfriend has convinced me to have maybe 200mls of water after a day of cycling and walking in the heat. I'm parched, but the thought of drinking scares me so much. I feel like I've eaten too much today and I need to make up for it by not drinking.

I desperately want to drink something, I need to drink something before I faint, and there's absolutely nothing on the internet about this! Does anyone have any advice on how I could convince myself to drink something? I've tried an ice cube but I ended up spitting it back out.
Many thanks 💕

Thank you for your reply! The thought of drinking anything at all absolutely repulses me, unfortunately. Thank you for your suggestion, though.

I feel like the only way for me to drink something would be if someone was physically forcing me to.

Earlier when I drank I sipped it so slowly because the last thing I want is for me to feel full again- when I feel full, I feel guilty. :(

Yes, I was diagnosed with anorexia by the doctor a few days ago aha. I'm having blood tests done on Monday, but yes, I think this is part of my ED. I also have depression and anxiety, to name a few.

Thank you again for your reply :)

Water won’t make you gain weight. You may get temporarily bloated because you’re dehydrated, but you will pee it out.

GI is right there, water won’t put on weight, as it flushes out of you as urine.

Water will definitely not make you put on weight. You will end up poorly as well if you dont have any, possibly resulting in hospital due to heat stroke/exhaustion. Which is probably best avoided.

How about some ice pops or ice cream?
Try telling yourself repeatedly that this is part of a disorder, not you - you can beat this and you will hydrate yourself because you are in control, not the disorder.

Please drink some water. You sound gravely ill which could be reason to institutionalize you. Least it's like that where I'm from. Dying of thirst would be a horrid way to go. Again please drink water. This is a severe case of self harm.

Hello Charliedragonfly how you feeling today and sorry to hear the diagnosis of anorexia but i'm surprised you haven't been described tablets that help your system to revert the other way.

Anxiety, stress and a form of phobia don't help :)

Yes, what you're describing is anorexia and I'm glad you've been diagnosed and will be getting help. I suspect you do know that water has no calories but it's not about that. You don't like the feeling of fullness partly because self-deprivation makes you feel more comfortable and in control, would be my guess. And here's the great irony. We restrict because it's the one thing we can control but we can't control the restricting. So I can't give you a way to trick yourself into drinking the water but I can tell you it's okay. You are loved.

Thank you very much to everyone who replied. So far I’ve been forcing myself to drink every now and again and when I eat, I’ve been opting for foods like cucumber and soup to keep me hydrated. I have another doctors appointment due soon and I will definitely talk about this. Thank you all again for your help and understanding, it means a lot :thanks:
