Hi,

Agh! just spent ages writing a reply and it disappeared! Here goes again.

I had hypnotherapy for depression and anxiety about two years ago and defo think it had a positive impact on me. It didn't solve my problems but it did give me a sense of control over my thoughts, and helped me understand the way my mind works alot.

Nobody knows whether it works as a sort of placebo, or if there is some other explanation, but if it benefits people I don't really think it matters.

I think its success is very dependant on the therapist, you need to trust them to be relaxed enough for it to work, and you need to have a bit of faith in the treatment, it probably won't help somebody who doesn't think it will help.

I gave up smoking and weed through hypnotherapy, something I had failed to do many times before, and that's reason enough for me to say that it's worth a shot.

Good luck.

Hi
Thanks very much for your reply - I was just looking at some alternative therapies as I have tried the counsellor route in the past even though it was on th National Health and I didn't really get much help from it as it was a very short course and I am also on medication - so I am just pondering wether to try the hypnotherapy route or trying an independant counsellor.

I had hypnotherapy for depression and over eating, and it really worked.
