HOW TO HELP YOURSELF

* Always keep in mind that this is not your fault.

* Distracting yourself from your thoughts is not always the best thing to do. Try to take charge of them by writing them down and looking back at them again later. Do this once a day, at the same time of day if you can.

* It is helpful to listen to your obsessional thoughts and then try not to act on them.

* Find healthy ways to cope with anxiety and don't rely on alcohol or non-prescription drugs.

* Join a support group.

* Read a self-help book.

ERP, CBT, ACT and DBT therapies are also recommended. Maybe not a complete course in either or all, but there are benefits to all of them

Try listening to one's obsessive thoughts? To an extent. Often dismissing them as soon as they begin is good for me or changing the wording to be positive reinforcement is good for me. When that's not enough, anxiety meds that quiet OCD is good for me. I hope this helps others.

CBT plays a vital role in handling OCD related problems. Mind you I had suffered for almost 30 years but came out in 2017.

Yeah, it does. I have ROCD so it does help with handling issues with other people.
