How long does a manic episode last in BP1?

As I posted before, a close friend is manic. He is really difficult to be around right now. I try and call him one or twice a day sometimes just to check in on him, keeping the conversations super short. He keeps posting all sorts of crazy nonsense on social media. How long can we expect this to last? Will he fizzle out and crash down to Earth soon? Help.

Depends on the person
Depends on the lifestyle
Depends on the success of the meds they are either on or aren’t on

I read that in BP1, the average manic episode is 13 weeks. He needs to be on anti-manic and Lithium but refuses to take anything

Maybe so but you can’t force anyone to take medication even if they are manic

It will likely take longer if untreated and there is something fueling the mania.

Can you give an example of something that might fuel mania?

Substances like weed, alcohol, and harder drugs can certainly fuel mania. Other things are lack of sleep, stress, and being constantly around things that stimulate you (good or bad).

Some of us don't fizzle out of mania. Some of us just stay there til we are medicated or physically just can't maintain it anymore. It can be a rough for those who care for us. Get help. If you can't get help for your friend, get help for you. Dealing with us xan be a lot.

Hugs and support.

:)

Yes but a parent, friend or relative can’t enforce medication. Only a qualified doctor can.

Weed did the opposite but alcohol was like poison to me

At least a week, but can last for months if not treated. Mine lasted for three weeks. I was treated in hospital after about two weeks.
