How do I desensitize myself to a name?

There's a person's name that really triggers me because of memories I have of it, it's a common name, how do I go about desensitizing myself to it so it no longer bothers me? This would be useful for other stuff that triggers me also.

I would say write it down over and over again. Bore your mind to resting. I learnt that from a therapist. Keep on writing and saying it and then it loses some of its power. All I do know is trying to block a thought usually results in it gaining more power over you.

It's actually in a book I'm reading as one of the characters, although I've stopped reading it because it's too triggering, every time I see it I have to quickly read until another name is mentioned and I feel better, I can't close the book if that's the last name I saw either.

I'll try again anyway, thanks for your advice.

I had this kind of problems in the past and the only thing I can tell you for sure is, time... in a year or two the name might be just a name again...
