How did you stop binging?

Or what prevents you from doing so?

I had therapy at an eating disorders centre.

Did it work for you? Or does it still pop back up and you’re able to stop yourself from acting on it?

The treatment along with another round of therapy has helped. I have not had a binge for a long time. I over eat at times but not binge.

I’m happy for you. That’s really good, maybe there’s hope then. I don’t even know what I have but I tend to eat a ton when sad. Maybe it’s different than binging but either way I hate that I’m this way. There was a time where I could care less about food and just eat when I’m actually hungry

Eating when sad is understandable because food brings joy and a distraction. I think for you it can also be because you restrict through fear of weight gain. That is how it started with me. I was restricting for many years in order to be accepted.

When you say restrict do you mean restricting certain foods I eat or calories? Or both? Lol. I basically eat a certain number of calories to maintain or lose and if I feel I can’t fit any dessert in when I’m craving it, I will fit it into my diet so I can and don’t have to worry about gaining weight. It backfires because then it’s like I ate junk and there’s no protein etc. I have gained a few pounds recently because I’ve been very depressed

I kind of got the impression you had a strict diet and restricted calories. You do not allow yourself time off working out through fear of gaining weight. You seem super hard on yourself.

When my diet starts going bad with too much junk I fast. Longest was 16 days - Gatorade and skim milk for electrolytes and protein. After it's over my craving for sweets is gone. You should talk to a doctor about it.

Maybe I need to try that. The thing with fasting is it gives me migraines though

Yeah I probably am, I just want a healthy relationship with food and exercise.
Instead I fall off the wagon and go to the extremes. Either eating terrible on a calorie restriction or overeating. Or wanting to stop eating completely. I can never win

I have spent my whole life doing that. It is a total nightmare and I am so sorry. All my life I wanted to be slim and would do anything to be that way. I ended up having a binge eating disorder. I hope you can discuss this with your therapist and get support for it. I think the earlier you can get support the better.

I used to be one of those guys who ate 8000 calories a day because I worked out so much. 50 mile bike rides after work - especially in 50 degree weather burn so many calories that you can eat like a pig. When my feet went bad I cut back a LOT. I went back to fasting a couple of times a year after that.

I’m so sorry you have to go through the same thing, it is nice we can relate. Yeah I just wanna be happy with myself and slim. I don’t know if she really understands the extent of it but if she doesn’t, I could look into something separate

I have found therapist which specialise in eating disorders to be more helpful. I am sorry you are going through this too.
