Hi there! Figured I'd introduce myself

Hey everyone! I'm new here. I figured I'd introduce myself.

I'm Michael. I don't really know what to say... lol. I'm pretty interested in psychopharmacology and find myself reading about it quite a lot for recreation. I'd like to become a pdoc one day, but I'm not sure I could hack it through medical school. I'm also enjoy listening to and attempting to compose music (I have a BA in music technology), as well as make arrangements for video game music. I admit that I have somewhat of a fetish for synthesizers, especially the old vintage ones... lol. I am crazy about writing utensils and other writing paraphernalia... I have two fountain pens by Lamy that I have started using exclusively out of the probably thousands of pens that I have... lol!

I was diagnosed with OCD and Tourette's syndrome when I was about 9 or 10 years old, though the signs were evident much sooner than that. I was diagnosed with ADHD not too long thereafter, but wasn't medicated for it for long because I apparently couldn't tolerate the medicine (my mom swears it was Adderall but I seem to remember it being methylphenidate).

In 2012, after finishing college, I attempted suicide (after making several "mini-attempts") that summer. My mental health had been declining markedly as I was going through college. Signs of bipolar disorder were becoming very evident, even since high school and middle school. My mom tried to turn me on to the idea that I might be bipolar, but I brushed it aside. Finally, after the suicide attempt, I agreed that I needed help.

I had to initially go through my GP, but eventually, in 2013, I was finally able to see my pdoc, whom I love greatly. She is absolutely an angel. I've since been diagnosed with bipolar type 2, ADHD-PI, and circadian rhythm sleep disorder (which kind I don't know). Some working diagnoses (not officially on my chart) that she has thrown out there are social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, PTSD, and binge-eating disorder OR other specified feeding or eating disorder.

I also have idiopathic hypersomnia and nocturnal epilepsy.

As of today, these are my medications:

I have very treatment-resistant bipolar depression. I rarely go through a hypomanic episode. My depressive episodes can occasionally get so bad that they are psychotic depressive episodes.

Anyway, that's about all I guess I have to say.

Looking forward to participating in this community!
