Have been in counseling this year due to childhood trauma. Spent my whole life wanting to be invisible. Counseling helped and don't want to be invisible but now full of regret that have wasted my life

Hey, don’t let regret swallow you up, I think you would be surprised with the amount of people that have some form of regret in their life, I find the best way to deal with it is to have something to work forwards, find what that may be and then hold onto it! :)

Many members have been through what you have and like @Noidentity0510 said working forward is the best, i often look on my past and find it can upset you so i try to ignore that and look to the future with my hubby. :hug:

Has anyone heard of maladaptive daydreaming? I think I have it..I dream about the life I wish I had lived

That's one thing i've not heard of and i've done some reaching and searching on conditions, since diagnosis of one issue after another...maybe this will help :hug:

I was just researching it and i think i have it to. As a kid until now i rock in chairs and i am always daydreaming. I immerse myself wholly into my dreams and get upset when i come out of them. Its always been a coping mechanism for me. Ive always known i have some sort of problem but researching this, i found this describes me perfectly. It would be great to talk to others with it.

Yes I use it as a coping strategy too. When real life becomes too much to cope with. I have a lot of regret about missing out on living my life and daydream about how could have done things differently.
Counseling has helped as has trying to improve my present life so I don't want to hide in my alternative world.

I tried counselng and found talking to others helps as much as seeing a therapist and cheaper. I work as a welder so spend my day in a dream which is fine by me keeps the memories at bay

Yeah, the music, the movies, the pacing... It's all too familiar. I've daydreamed ever since I was kid. September 2019, thank to the video of a YouTube channel I'm subscribed to I found out about MDD and I was schocked, I thought I was the only one. After various reaserches I found out that people use it as a coping mechanism... And spend so much time daydreaming that they commit their lives to it and have problems socialising and studying /working, and wanna be left alone... But in my case I've never had these types of issues, I do prefer my real life to the fantasy one and I have no issues regarding my concentration level, I almost feel like I do it out of boredom. Usually when people with MDD are sad or having a hard time they run into their safe fantasy world... I don't, I don't feel like doing anything at all, like not wanting to read a book or cook, when instead based on what people with MDD say I should be running in my fantasy world. I have all the symptoms but It does not heavily affect my life how it should.. I don't understand, do I have it? Or do I not? It's not essential, its addictive yes, but not essential, it's just that I can't imagine life without it. Is there anyone who could possibly give me an answer on my situation? (sorry for the crappy English, it's not my first language)
