Hi everyone, I'm new to this site, so I thught I'd introduce myself. I live in sunny sutton in glorious south west london. I'm nearly 24, and I've been battling with mental illness for over 2 years now. Originally it was just depression I had to contend with. Now I suffer from anxiety (which I'm also on medication for) and I have problems/phobias (call it what you will) with food and hygiene. (I've never been diagnosed OCD). At times I have been really bad. I have self harmed in the past and had thoughts about suicide. I have had trouble just getting out the house, going to appointments etc etc. I am now getting out more, but its still a big issue. Like I still cant handle going to the doctors for an appointment. I have to have home visits, but even they make me terribly anxious.

It has been so long now that I am really impatient and generally p****d off with my situation. The so called specialists in my area have been no help at all. I just want to be back how i was before I was ill. My life has been on hold for the past 2 and a bit years (most of the time since I graduated from uni). In that time I have been on many different meds and combinations of meds, none of which have really done the trick. I have tried counselling and art psychotherapy, which didnt work either. I was offered CBT last year, but as I couldn't get out the house, they just discharged me from their list.

I have seen a shrink in the past, but she never listened and the hospital have just forgotten about me. I havent seen anyone from there since february last year.

Well, I think thats enough for now. Sorry for rambling on for so long.

Hi and welcome Fruitcake! :welcome:

What did you do at university?

Discharging you from the list for CBT just because you couldn't get out of the house sounds like a bit of a service led service rather than one which responds to the needs of the people who want to use it. Might be worth asking your GP to re-refer you and then requesting that you start it at home. If the psychology department have a problem with it I would try ringing the head psychologist and ask them directly. Also it is always worth remembering that you could speak to your GP on the phone or ask if you can email them if that is your prefered method of communication.

Welcome Fruitcake!!!! I'll see your Fruitcake and raise you a current bun ;)

Love the nickname, being able to laugh about an illness is half the battle won I feel. It seems to take the edge of it for me anyway...

:welcome:

Thanks for the messages of support. I'll try and reply to everyone at once.
I did International Politics and International History at university. I'm hoping to go back to uni this year (somewhere a bit closer to home) and do and MA in Early Modern History (about 1500-1700ish).
I have fantastic suuport at home from my parents and my brothers. Seriously, they've been fantastic. Saved me from getting sectioned really. And its the people at my doctors surgery who review my meds. Oh, I'm on Mirtazapine (which I've been on for SO long) and Haloperidol (which I've only recently been put on. I no longer feel the mirtazapine is doing much for me. And it's too early to tell about the haloperidol.

I know Sutton, I work in Farringdon and the mainline train runs down there. Also used to stay in Tooting, and the (night)bus to Sutton goes that way. My college is in Wandsworth which is sort of the same area too...
