Hi All,

I'm a 24 year old male living in the UK. I think i'm reasonably healthy and successfull. I've got a university degree and have a reasonable job in the career I want. Things are going well on the surface.

However there are things I don't understand about myself, you could say demons or 'worries' that manifest in my head related to events that occured in the past.

I was hoping to be able to learn what it is that's troubling me mentally and hopefully ways to deal with it. FYI i've never seen a doctor/professional about this. Being curious and with the web at my disposal, I came across this forum which looks like a good place to start. Applause go out to the people who run it :)

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Rather than go to the root straight away I'll start with the first most immediate problem.

I have a serious problem with developing new relationships with people. I have no problem talking small talk, even to strangers, talking about football, the weather, even having a dance in a nightclub, no problem. Its the intimate bonding and relationship developing I can't do.

I have a few friends who I would consider friends for life (from college a few years ago) so that means at some point I was able to develop relationships, but this skill (or whatever you call it) has gradually disappeared, it kinda feels like i've lost something important. Like losing a soul or something.....now everyday that passes I feel more and more isolated, sometimes alone, because the various people I come across in life just pass by, because I can't maintain a friendship/relationship.

Thats the outline, there a lot more to it and theres reasons i think I became this way but can someone suggest a sub forum to continue the discussion?

Thanks

Hi I can relate to how you feel about not being able to developing new relationships.
I have made a post in my blog which I was going to post here, but thought it wasn’t the right thing as I have no idea if it is the same as what is going on with you, but it’s what sprung to mind when I read your last post.

Try something in the friendships & relationships forum or you can start your own blog in the journals section. Blogs are very popular on this forum. You can talk about anything and you don't have to worry about keeping on topic!

That's a good post. It reminds me of a saying, assuming true friendship is built significantly out of respect. 'In order for people to respect you, you first need to become a person with your own respect'
