Hey everyone,

Thought I would introduce myself, been looking for a supportive community online and this one seems great! I work a job I really enjoy, have a variety of friends and have been really lucky with the support I've had with my mental health. Done a load of therapy for schizoaffective disorder and currently on medication, of which I will most likely be on for the rest of my life and have come to terms with. I also really enjoy swimming, music and watching series on Netflix at the moment.

I've currently been facing some issues with anxiety and depression; overthinking small situations, suicidal thoughts and not being able to leave my room occasionally.. just wondering if anyone had any tips?

Look forward to chatting :)

:welcome: to the forum. I too am on meds I suspect for life and it took me a long time to accept that. I am diagnosed with bipolar.

I am sorry that you are getting suicidal thoughts. Has anything triggered your latest experience? Sometimes there is something which starts it off, but sometimes it seems to come out of the blue.

Yes, it was very hard to come to terms with but it feels like dealing with slight side effects is better than psychosis in my opinion.

I get them quite regularly, I'm not sure why, I have done CBT for intrusive thoughts and kind of identity them as that. They started of after my 2nd episode, so maybe the psychosis triggered it? Otherwise, unfortunately they just pop up when small things go wrong.

Sometimes I feel as if change is needed in my life when these thoughts get slightly worse, however I might be wrong. I do feel like they will eventually go and I am in a waiting list for therapy, so we will see.

I am pleased that you are on a list for therapy. That should help. I get intrusive thoughts and they can be crippling at times. I work hard on "wiser mind" which is a way of looking at your emotional thoughts, then your logical thoughts and finally seeing what is in the middle which is wiser mind. So you look at the negatives, then the logical, rational and finally find a place which is more sensible - does that make sense? It takes practice but in time you get quicker at it.

Oh that's amazing, just tried it out and it makes total sense. Thank you!

I'm sorry I don't have any tips but I can certainly relate to some of what you've said, I've had two episodes of psychosis and from those I've become so scared of another I'll likely be on my medications for life, I also have a persistent voice in my head and it unsettles me when it frequently says "one day, one day!".

Can I ask if you're ok right now? Even though suicidal thoughts are more common than you might think (I believe as many as 1 in 5 people have them at some point in their life) we take everyone who has them very seriously.

If you ever feel like these thoughts are overwhelming you it may help to have a look at these two pages on the forum: Suicidal Crisis and Mental Health Forum - Getting Help.

We can also recommend calling the Samaritans on 116 123, I have personal friends who have called them and praise them for their work. One friend tells me he had the best nights sleep after a conversation with one of their volunteers.

While we may not have the training that these professionals have we're always here to listen.

I'd like to welcome you to the forums and wish you all the best.

Sorry to hear about your voices, I don't get voices but I hope they get better,

Thanks for asking, yes I am ok, I have a mental health team and call samaritans, CALM and my team's crisis team when it gets bad.

I will check out those forums, thank you for sharing.
