Have recently been to doctor and told I need help for bulimia! For the past 2 months been having problems with partner feel his behaviour is controlling eg never allowed out house without permission, always arguing especially over money etc I moved out for a few days and I stopped purging although mood didn't improve due to my depression! Now back home for past 2 days and back to purging;( he promised to make changes etc but is always having a go at me! Could he be the causes...HELP??

hi Redhead :welcome: to the forum

Some people do develop eating disorders as a means of control when they are in a situation where they don't have control over their lives. Your situation at home sounds intolerable - having to get permission to leave the house? You're an adult!

Have you told your GP about your husband's behaviour?

It might be that your situation has triggered your ED, only now you have two problems to deal with. Your ED may resolve once your marital issues are resolved, or it may take on a life of it's own.

What treatment has your GP recommended, have you been referred for therapy?

There's a useful website about eating disorders you might find helpful, it's called B-eat

Beat | The UK's Eating Disorder Charity

I also wonder whether some sort of relationship counselling might be helpful.

Btw just to let you know your post may be edited as ED specifics are not allowed on the forum. You haven't done anything wrong so please don't let that put you off posting.

Hi Redhead,

That does not sound like a healthy relationship, I think you might have hit the nail on the head. Controling you like this is a form of abuse. Have you heard of Womans Aid? They offer support to women in situations like this and I believe they have an online website and forum. You need to put your health first and it sounds like removing yourself from this environment could be a big step in the right direction.
