I have been doing pretty well and glad that I take "Lexapro" to help me with anxiety, depression, and PTSD. That medicine has been a lifesaver for me. I mainly continue to take it to be more resilient. I have a child that is on the autism spectrum. That kid is also on Lexapro. But my two brothers (identical twins) have schizophrenia. One was recently diagnosed, although he has had symptoms starting from age 22, he has had to be hospitalized a few times, but only during those times has he ever had medication. He doesn't believe in medication or therapy, and frankly, it is clear that his brain is shrinking. His brother has late-onset, probably starting from age 40, but could have been sooner, as I don't doubt that he probably hid it. He was recently diagnosed from being hospitalized with bipolar with psychosis. His identical twin was originally diagnosed with major depressive disorder, but now it's schizophrenia. I have always believed that both had schizo-affective, then as time went on, I believed it was schizophrenia. Doesn't matter as the treatment is the same, but they don't think they are ill and do not want counseling or medication. I'm overwhelmed, stressed, and exhausted.
