I care for my wife who is 3 years post diagnosis for Mixed Dementia and a long term sufferer with Depression and General Anxiety Disorder.

I have joined in the hope of learning as much as I can to help me care for my wife, as well as pass on what experience I have already gained to anyone needing help.

Hi and welcome to the forum :welcome:

I'm so sorry about your wife
Thank you for the warm welcome.

I'm very pragmatic so take life as it comes.

I don't ask for much but that  is very welcome as Dementia can leave the carer very isolated due to the fact that it usually strikes when old age has already started to produce a sense of isolation post career and family raising, as it has in our case.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I’m sure you’ll find support on here. There is a section on here dedicated to dementia where you could get advice from people in a similar situation

:thanks:

All the fantastic welcomes are greatly appreciated.

I hope that I will be able to contribute as much as I take from the forum. With my wife suffering from Depression and GAD as well as Dementia this certainly seems to be a great place for me to learn.

No doubt I will keep a close eye on the Dementia section as the years roll by, but other areas will be of interest as the Depression and GAD take up as much of my home time as the Dementia because my constant reassurances and rationalizations are quickly forgotten and in need of constant repetition. Meds take the edge of my wife's worries but the Dementia means that my talking therapies only help for a time that can be measured in minutes.

The biggest thing in our lives of late has been the fact that I managed to get 2 days a week in a Day Centre(DC) for my wife. My wife loves the DC and I get a break; WIN:WIN.:dance:

Hi Pink, life sounds so difficult for you with both you and your wife
suffering depression and GAD and your wife’s dementia.

You sound very caring and compassionate and as you say, pragmatic.
I’m so glad you got the 2days day care and it is benefitting you both.

As you say, it is a WIN WIN.

Take care and love to you both x
