I have a family member who has just been assessed as needing medication for bad psychosis, and possibly schizophrenia; this family member has refused all medication and counselling help and has now cut everybody off. Family is distraught wondering what the best thing to do is, so I thought I'd have a search for some advice or tips as to what I could do (or not do) to help him on this forum. Any advice gratefully received...?

Maybe be supportive of their decision not to take meds. The side effects are awful and might not even be worth it. And welcome!

when i first got sz i didnt take meds and i didnt see things from the psychiatrists perspective.

@Knitr7 hi there and welcome . I dont know if not taking the meds is a good idea. Yes they do have side effects but he could be putting himself in a really dangerous situation if he doesnt. He may even end up hospitalised and would he want that cos i can assure you its not a nice place to be in especially when you dont understand what’s happening. I suggest that you take a look at the section in schitzophrenia to see others views
