Hi this is all new 2 me posting a thread, or msg thingy, so here goes hope it works... i came across this site a couple of months ago whilst i was looking up some medication and looking 4 chat rooms on mental health. I usually come on about once a week and read thru the new postings, a little about me cos am now waffling which is a habit of mine...lol..i am a 40 yr young female, i have suffered with depression 4 about 20 yrs now, about 10 yrs ago i had a nervous breakdown which was diagnosed as been caused as emotional cos at time was having marital probs, i since then divorced a few yrs later....But i have since over the yrs had a few more episodes and have been seeing a physciatrist, she has been treating me 4 bi polar so i am on an anti deperessent and also take depakote...but in general my mood is always low its only on odd occasions at most twice in a yr that i experience high moods what are associated with bi polar and these have been triggered by very stressful situations... i am beginning to wonder if i am really bi polar, because most ppl i know of who suffer it seem to get a lot of highs.. i just wish i could get away from my depressive moods, they make me feel like everyday of life is a chore to get through, i have told her about this and she has tried me on various antidepressents at the moment i take reboxetine 8mg daily, but i still dont feel i am getting any pleasure from life....please anyone any suggesstions.....many thanks

Welcome

Hi there D, you'll have seen that the folk here have a whole variety of experiences and knowledge.

Can I ask who gave you your diagnosis? If you haven't been seen by a psychiatrist it might be time to get that specialist assessment. Your GP can refer you.

Cheers

Chris

Hi D,

Good to have you on the forum - welcome! I'm afraid that I can't offer any solutions to your low moods - I'm in the midst of one at the moment and feel completely lost. However I'm sure someone on the forum will come up with some good stuff. In the mean time take it easy and do keep posting. :tea:

Hi Dashem. Bipolar Disorder varies from person to person and whilst some people get what seem to be a lot of highs others seem to get a lot of lows. What the psychiatrist looks for is a pattern of moods not necessarily how often they happen.

I take lithium which suits me very well and it also can act as an anti depressant.
