Does anyone know if there is any heating allowance that can be claimed for people on long term sick. I have reached the stage where the DHSS have told me they dont want any more sick notes. But now especially as the utilities have risen so sharpley and most people in this situation spend most of there time in the home there are going to be more and more having serious problems.

Ive been thru every overnment site but cannot find anything fr people under 60

The other grants that people can apply for around utilities are the different grants from energy or water trusts. The grants are mainly available to people who are in arrears with their household bills eg power, gas, water etc. You can also apply for money to assist with other essential domestic bills and costs.

Here are some links:

http://www.edfenergytrust.org.uk/
http://www.eosfoundation.org.uk/
http://www.sttf.org.uk/
http://www.uutf.org.uk/

I know of a number of people who have applied successfully for such grants.

Thank you thank thank you

The man from warmfront (defra) has just been round. To begin with he was saying well youve storage heaters and your house feels quite warm.

Then i went into the tirade about how expensive economy 7 was during the day. Then unfortunatly cos id had to take my car in for repair this morning and come home on the bus which absolutly terrifies me, i went and had a full belting panic attack. Poor fella i did feel sorry for him. He was trying to help calm me down, Then we started just chatting and i started to feel better

And yey i got the grant

Got to wait for the surveyor. I can have 5 radiators but im gonna ask them to remove the storage heaters and pay for the extra central heating:clap::clap:

Good news Daffy!!!! It's nice to know these people are there to try and help us when they can. Don't take people on appearances tho', you never know at the weekends and bank holidays he may be part of a global conspiracy :scared: ;)

I got insulation put round the windows, which was removed when they put in double glazing and a sort of brush thing on the door because i was on dla, they're talking about supplying a free digibox when it goes digital, t got one from the internet cheap, they installed new arial, however you spelll it, seem to have dyslexia, they said as the signal is shared they can't guarantee digital reception, reception sticks when it's raining

Heating allowance is only for the elderly they justify that by saying disabled people don't die of hypothermia

Surprised you can get new radiators, is it the council, is it gas, my flat is electric only

When i moved in the first winter i didn't worry about heating cost, got a £1000 elecy bill, phoned up they said i wasn't paying the previous tenants bill, but they'll say anything at those call centres, could have done with a social worker to sort it out but seems i'm not that level of priority, paid £100 a month for a year

Hi rambo i am on DLA and i own my own property . Last year i had cavity wall insulation put in and i paid myself for storage heaters. But when i phoned up Warmfront (part of DEFRA) they said i may be entitled to a grant of £2700 towards central heating and i got it.

I do think you can still get it if you rent but you just have to get permission from your landlord. They can put in gas electric or oil Try looking it up

good luck
