I can't figure out why I'm hearing voices as I go to sleep. My dreams are usually vivid. I probably wouldn't care, but this happens often. I did struggle with anxiety and stress before. I'm doing better with that part of it. I had this checked out before and they didn't give me any answers.

Welcome aboard to MHF.

The voices can occur through tiredness. Have you been very tired before upon sleeping, or have they come naturally?

I would go back, to the doctors, and say that you are still having heard voices and it might wellb e that you might need to have some form of medication to help you sleep better.

Otherwise, I could only suggest that you might like to seek a 2nd opinon from completely different doctors.

Do let us know in due course, what might happen.

Hello man. Do you hear them inside your head or outside (from other objects that emit sounds)?

It just happens as I'm falling asleep or coming out of a sleep. They places I've been said it's normal with some people. They said if you're wide awake and hearing things than it's an issue. My concern is it won't ease up at that time. I'm usually able to get enough sleep. I've tried reducing stress and everything else they suggested. I went to a couple different places that treat mental health.

It usually clear or mumbling voices inside my head as I'm drifting off to sleep. I don't hear anything from other objects or outside like someone else speaking.

you should go to doctor. Also, how old are you?

I'm around 40 and never had this issue before. I went to an ER and then a Psych Center. Neither one gave me an explanation of what was going on.

These are called hypnagogic hallucinations and are perfectly normal. They occur before sleep.

I'd add @Outdoorsman39 (I don't know if this works here...still new), I agree get a second opinion. I've not heard voices (the only one I heard years ago was STOP!) But I think it had to do with my trauma cause I said that often and didn't realize. Neurologist would probably help if its a neuro condition like narcolepsy. Psychiatrist, of course (or work with them together). If you go to a neurologist, they may "make the psychiatrist" believe you... its worth a shot.

Take care of yourself and keep us updated

Hypnogogic hallucinations. Sometimes in can increase in frequency after. I wouldn’t worry about it. Is it pleasant or unpleasant?

I honestly don't know where to go next. Originally I went to a PCP when I was feeling stressed and had some psychical symptoms. This was before the voices had started. They did several medical tests and everything came back normal. I went to an ER on a couple different occasions and they weren't much help at all. Then I had a mental health assessment at a Psych Center and they suggested it could be stress. It was an inpatient facility and they sent me home. I contacted a Psychiatrist online and they said sleep hallucinations are benign. Currently I don't feel like I'm as stressed. Just the disruptive voices are stubborn at times. Maybe it's a type of sleep issue or disorder.

I really can't make out the voices, but sometimes it's more clear or familiar sounding. The dreams can be odd at times.
