Hey everyone.

Have recently been in hospital with my 1st hypomanic episode. I can hardly remember the first few weeks. I do remember thinking i could fly and that i had killed my daughter. I then got taken off my anti d's and went into a depression. was in 8 weeks altogether and have been out for 2 - 3 weeks. still feeling quite low.

Anyway, my thyroid was overactive which can cause hypomania. they still dont know if it was my throid or if i have bipolar 2. have had depression in the past and been admitted after i had my daughter for severe depression.

i feel so lost and alone , like no one understands. im scared of having bi polar 2. dont know much about it and dont know anyone who has it. i just need someone to talk to.

hope there are people out there who have time for a chat.

Nikki x

Hi Nikki,

I myself am on a come down from a three week hypomanic eppisode which somehow managed to control to a point. At the moment i am sinking into a depression like i had before being diagnosed with bipolar (i don't know which type as i have never been told).

I'm normally around if your looking to chat.

thanks for your replies. My family are holding on to the fact that it mite have been my thyroid that triggered it, but I cant be so optimistic. Im just wondering when if ever i wil lhave another episode.

Hey,

Hello again - perhaps you won;t have another - I presume you are still seeing the doctor?? Maybe they can give you some answers about the manic episodes or have they said you need to wait to find out whether it was linked to the thyroid problem?

Hope that you are ok - here if you want a chat

Hiya, I see the thyroid specialist tom. and my cpn is taking me to the apt so she will be able to help me put accross anything i have too.

I am probably just being negative as I have lower mood just now. I realise that. I just see a bleaker picture of the future than I would normally I suppose.

Thanks for listening, It is hard talking to family about how im feeling.

Hope your doing ok yourself x

:hug:Hello,

I know it is difficult to share things - I dont talk to my close relations at all - I just can;t.

I hope it goes ok tomorrow for you - let me know how you get on - I'll be thinking about you, well depression throws us in to deep despair and you just have to try to keep climbing out of the hole - lets hope you hear some positive news tomorrow

Hey there, sorry to hear about your recent episode. Good that your on the road to better now though. Someone in my close family has thyroid problems, and they suffered badly with depression for a long time, but all is ok now. Well, when are things ever ok? but they're doing just fine. No more huge swells either way, just a comfy 'normal' meduim. I suffer badly from depression too. Have been tested several times for an overactive thyroid / diabetes / so on and so on. All clear so far though. Anyways, if you wanna talk to someone that lives with someone in a similar situation, and also suffers from depression. feel free to reply / pm me.

Take care

Hi Toona,
I remember your posts before you were admitted. I developed an under active after being on lithium for 1 year or so. (Lithium can cause an underactive thyroid in some people) I was ok on just 50 mcg of thyroxine for sometime. Then just last summer - my levels went way too low. even with the first 3 increases in my thyroxine - my levels got worse instead of better. ( I became so depressed) Tow GP's asked me if I was taking the Thyroxine?? I was a little annoyed by that question! Why would I not take it. Finally I was stabilized on 200 mcg.

Thanks to lithium causing me to develop an under active Thyroid - I then developed severe carpal tunnel in one hand a mild in the other. (it is often linked to an under active thyroid) So am on a waiting list to have an operation for the carpal tunnel.

My thyroid is acting up again and I am having weekly blood tests done again.

It's lovely to see you again Toona. x Hope you find out just what is going on.

All the best.
