Has your mental state ever got so that you ran away from your home, as an adult that is? How did you feel? What did you do?
It's a feeling that is under my skin often.

What do you feel when you feel this, where do you intend to go and for how long, and who or what are you wanting to run from?

Yes I have run away a few times. The longest I stayed away was five days where I lived in the woods without food or drink. My intention was to run off further and never come back but it started raining and I hate being wet. Also I missed my family. It’s something I still think of pretty often, just going away and leaving everything behind. xo, j

I guess I feel overwhelmed, with expectations maybe. Probably high anxiety levels. I have no idea where I would intend to go, I've often started walking to get away but I just walk and walk and don't know where to go. I'm running away from people, responsibility, work, family, everyone that expects something from me. Also from things causing fear or anxiety.

In my first job in the late 90's I was struggling with MH, sometimes I would say I was sick halfway through the day because I couldn't stand it there any more, I would have to catch the train home but would stand at the station just staring at the departures board wanting to catch any other train to anywhere other than home because I didn't want to be there either.

Guilt makes me not do it, letting people down, upsetting others, making people angry with me. I just go home again.

Did it help the way you were feeling at the time to run away? What was it like to go back again?
I think I would be scared to go back because I would have to face everyone else's emotions on the whole matter.

It's why I go hoboing, things, people and places getting to much for me I take off for a while, pack my bag and just go, I have a waterproof bivvy bag to stop my sleeping bag getting wet
` and I sleep in woodlands and churchyards. I once spent a week completely undisturbed in the greenery of a roundabout in North Yorkshire, got a solar charger for my phone so if anything happens I can tell someone where I am.

I said I might do that last year, to husband. I've got a lightweight tent, I could backpack off for a few days. See if it helped. I think I would just feel guilty, I'm plagued with a guilty conscience, it does me in, controls my life almost.

Sometimes I lay in bed when everyone else is asleep and think if I had a bag packed I could just disappear in the night.

When I was married a few times I told my wife I was working out of town for a week but actually went into the wilderness to get away from her. I wanted to keep walking and never go back but wouldn't be able to live with myself so I enjoyed the time apart and always went back. If nothing else getting away for a bit defiantly helps even when no one else knows you are actually running away.

I am seriously thinking about leaving my wife, everything has become way to intense recently. I am going to look at flats online tommorow near where I work. I will probably give one of the agents a call for a show around. I have been creating a plan in my mind about all the details of how to leave her over the last few months. Things might improve between us, I don't know. Making this small step tommorow will make me feel less trapped, but I don't have to take it any further.

I share this fantasy. In my case, it's a foreign country entirely (any) or at least a place with no known people.
