Groups in the United States

Seems like the United States is way behind in it's support for voice hearers.

Hi,
I'm in California and have been trying to find groups in the U.S. with no luck...thinking of starting one. HVN says there is one in Madison,
Wisconsin but I emailed them a month ago with no reply. If there
are groups they are probably individual ones at hospitals, but there
is no unified network of groups as in U.K. and Europe here in the U.S.

We sure need more awareness about this phenonema here.
Not to sound paranoid but do you think the drug companies could be blocking this.
Also does anyone know how to get a copy of "Accepting Voices" in the US?

Hey Kurt,
Was born in St. Louis, now in Calif. There is a woman psychiatrist at
Washington University there on the faculty who is an out-of-the-closet schiz and voice hearer...wish I could remember her name...but read about her a yr. ago...she would be very interesting to talk to.
Your question about drug companies is right on. There is an excellent
book on the subject "Mad In America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine"
by Robert Whitaker which is a scathing indictment of the drug
companies exploitation and mistreatment of mental illness which they
promote and profit from. He was a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize. Bottom
line: schizs in the U.S. fare much worse than in Europe or even thrid
world countries due to the drug companies manipulation of the medical establishment here in the U.S.

I would like to start by acknowledging a genuine necessity for recognized available alternatives, for those with experiences or incident otherwise defamed through categorization. Socialistic perceptions have maintained a perpetual elusive countenance to the profligacy which ultimately imbrues the ideology coveted. hvg in USA

I recently started a hvg in Montgomery County, PA, USA. soon I will also start one in Philadelphia,PA, USA. I too e-mailed Madison but received no response. I did get a response from Molly in Denver, CO, USA It is exciting. Each meeting is different from the one before. If there is anyone in southeastern PA who wants to join a hvg, let me know.
