My husband wants me to look into going private for a pyschiatrist/psychologist because the NHS are as we all know in the most part, as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. I just wondered if anyone had been down this route and approx how much it costs. He says it doesn't matter about the money but I know it would just be something else for me to panic about!!

I've no experience of private MH care. I've had some poor NHS MH care, which was more down to me, altho I sometimes think that they could have tried harder, and I have had some fantastic MH care from the NHS. I do have issues with these private types, it seems a bit parasitic and elitist, to me... I've probably started an arguement saying that...I do apologise...I'd like to give private a go, just to see what they come up with tho'...

Hi Unlucky,

I don't know very much about care within the private MH sector however this was something I had discussed with my boss at one stage. She has private medical insurance which she paid a lump sum for and therefore any treatment received is covered by that insurance.

If the costing involved is a concern for you it may ne worth while looking into that. We discussed it has she thought it might be a line I could try considering how long NHS waiting lists are. Private waiting times do not compare in anyway.

Good luck and I hope you get some really good advice.

Jo x
