Hi,
The patient would most likely have been placed under a section, there are many. A solicitor specliasing in the mental health act could advise you.
Most hospitals have visiting times, the patient can I believe refuse visitors.
The mother if the nearest relative would be able to meet with the mental health care team.
Hope that helps.
Take care

Assuming the patient is an adult all their care will be confidential and could only be disclosed to you with their consent. Even if you are the nearest relative, I think they can decline for the team to share information with you. I believe mental health advocates can sometimes support the nearest relative too, certainly the patient can ask for one. See the Mind website for more info. In short if the patient does not have a partner who has lived with them for more than 6 months then the eldest parent would autimatically be nearest relative, unless the patient requested a change to this.
